Exhibition on the betel and areca culture

An exhibition titled “Betel and areca culture of Vietnam” is being held in Hanoi to help visitors better understand this aspect of Vietnam's beautiful traditional culture.

The event is held at No1, Trang Tien street, by the Vietnam National History Museum, the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology and the Vietnamese Women’s Museum.

About 100 typical objects and photos of lime pots, betel boxes and spittoons are on display at the exhibition in order to present the origin of betel chewing practice in Vietnam and to preserve the beauty of this traditional culture.

The highlight of the show is a set of betel leaf and areca nut eating tools of the noble and rich people of the Nguyen Dynasty, made of gold, silver and precious stones, with exquisite designs.

There are also similar tools made of bamboo, ceramic and copper, used by ordinary people.

The exhibition will last until January 2013. (Source: CPV)
